Tenses

Definition; 

Grammar tenses refer to the state of the verb. The state or tense of the verb explains the times of action. 
There are three major tenses in English. This include:

• Present

• Past 

• Future

English tenses are the form of the verb takes to show the time of an action. Each of these tenses can explain and event that occurred in the past and event that occurs in the present and event that will occur in the future 

Examples of tenses:

I write. ( Present tense )
I wrote. ( Past tense )
I will write. ( Future tense )

Present Tense;

The present tense deals with current situation or action of a verb at present time.
Present tense divided into four parts.

• Present Simple Tense

• Present Continuous Tense

• Present Perfect Tense

• Present Perfect Continuous Tense

Present Simple Tense;

S= Subject
O= Object
V= Verb

The present simple tense expresses events that happens in the present but are not happening right now. The present tense is used for,
• Facts.
• Habits and habitual rules actions.
• General truth for universal truth and state of being.

Structure, 

S + V (1st form) + O.

Examples,  

I write a latter.
She sings a song.

Options, 

1) Negative Structure,

S + Do/Does + Not + V +O.

Examples; 

I don't write a letter.
She does not sing a song.

2) Interrogative structure,

Do/Does + S + V + O ?

Examples;

Do i write a letter?
Does she sing a song?

3) intro negative structure,

Do/Does + S + Not + V + O ?

Examples; 

Do I not write a letter?
Does she not sing a song?

Present continuous tense;

Action, no limits, continuous of action.

Structure,

S + Be + V ( 1st ) + ing + O.
Be = is, are, am.

Examples, 

I am writing a letter.
She is singing a song. 

Options, 

1) Negative Structure, 

S + Be + Not + V ( 1st form ) + ing + O.

Examples, 

I am not writing a letter.
She is not singing a song.

2) Interrogative structure, 

Be + S + V (1st ) + ing + O ?

Examples,

Am I writing a letter?
Is she singing a song?

3) Intro Negative Structure,

Be + S + not + V ( 1st ) + ing + O ?

Examples,

Am I not writing a letter?
Is she not singing a song?

Present Perfect Tense;

Completion of action.

Structure,

S + Be + V ( 3rd form ) + O.
Be= have , has

Examples,

I have written a letter.
She has sung a song.

Options,

1) Negative Structure,

S + Be + Not + V (3rd) + O.

Examples,

I have not written a letter.
She has not sung a song.

2) Interrogative structure, 

Be + S + V(3rd) + O?

Examples, 

Have I written a letter?
Has she sung a song?

3) Intro negative structure, 

Be + S + Not + V( 3rd ) + O? 

Examples, 

Have I not written a letter?
Has she not sung a song? 

Present Perfect Continuous Tense;

Some work has completed or some is in Continuous form. The random or except time it given.

Structure, 

S + Be + been + V ( 1st ) + ing + Since/for + time adverb. 

Examples,

I have been writing a letter since 2010.
She has been singing a song since 2010.

Options,

1) Negative structure, 

S + Be + not + been + V(1st) + ing + O + Since/for + time adverb.

Examples, 

I have not been writing a letter since 2010.
She has not been writing a letter since 2010.

2) Interrogative structure,

Be + S + been + V(1st) + ing + O + since/for + time adverb?

Examples,

Have I been writing a letter since 2010?
Has she been singing a song since 2010?

3) Intro negative structure,

Be + S + not + been + V(1st) + ing + O + Since/for + time adverb?

Examples,

Have I not writing a letter since 2010?
Has she not singing a song since 2010?
